everything as an API

programming interfaces

Many developers are aware that APIs have been in use for over 20 years. In programming years, that is middle age. Many forward-thinking organizations have been able to commercialize their APIs, treat them like a real product, and expand their reach with partners, developers, clients, and standards bodies. APIs are living organisms. They require care and feeding to ensure their relevance and usefulness continues to grow. They are in use everywhere and generate billions of dollars in revenue for their creators. Not much has changed with APIs. They still use HTTP protocol and primarily REST. The advent of cloud platforms, smart devices, and machine learning has inspired a renewed interest in API architecture and operations research and development.
